Preparing for your Headshot

What to expect.

Most headshots are straightforward and don’t take long. You’ll find the shoot casual and enjoyable. We’ll be set-up before you arrive so we can start shooting right away. There is a bathroom where you can change your clothing and touch up your hair / makeup.

The shoot will last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes depending on the variety of photos that you’d like to see. You can review the photos as we shoot. This ensures that you’re happy with your photos before you leave.

Getting the most out of your shoot.

The opportunity to get professional portraits doesn’t come along too often, so it’s worth making the most of your time with us.

We recommend bringing a number of different tops. It only takes a moment to change, so take advantage of your studio time to get some variety.  Our clients typically bring at least two outfits - one professional, and one more casual.

Even if you’re getting a headshot for your employer, it’s worth using the extra time to get a new personal portrait while you’re here.

What to wear

We have an extensive guide on what we recommend wearing. You can view it here if you wish. The basic tips are as follows:

• Bring a number of options - professional and more casual

• Wear solid colours or simple patterns

• Consider your brand, or your employer’s requirements

• Choose something comfortable

• Consider the backdrop - if you need a headshot on white, don’t wear a white shirt etc.

• Ensure your clothes are ironed and your accessories complimentary.

Retouching and delivery

You have two options for selecting the images you wish to purchase and have retouched. -You can choose at the end of your shoot, or later from an online gallery. Once you’ve made your selections we will retouch the photos and send them to you.

The retouching process is designed to look natural, not “photoshopped”. We soften lines, reduce redness and whiten teeth.
